Introducing the Advanced Tactical Camera

Advanced Tactical Camera Unmounted

Thank you for visiting the new home page for Pacific Concepts ATC. Pacific Concepts/HBD Inc has been providing innovative solutions to Industry and Law Enforcement agencies for over 37 years. After over a year in R&D, we now have a new product to introduce. We developed this camera in partnership with a major video camera maker. This is the first hardened video camera developed for mounting on a firearm. Waterproof to 10 ft, runs off two AA batteries.

Our R&D was aimed at producing a camera for law enforcement use, mounted directly on the fore end or barrel of a entry gun for SWAT use. As the prototype was displayed, we started receiving new uses from all directions.

Paintball players have shown a huge interest, along with bow hunters, handgun hunters and shotgun hunters.

On the law enforcement side we have had requests for mounts for ATV’s, bike patrols, water bikes, boats and a hand held, waterproof, easy to use camera for boarding boats. The corrections field is using them for video taping cell extractions, deployment of less lethal launchers and riot situations.

The uses seem to be only restricted by your imagination.

Testimonial

Recently, I had the opportunity to test and evaluate the Advanced Tactical Camera. The Advanced Tactical Camera is a weapon mountable digital camera that utilizes a memory card to capture video. Complete camera specifications can be found below.

For testing purposes, I mounted the camera to a Bushmaster Patrol rifle in 5.56mm. I fired 150 rounds at distances from 20 yards to 50 yards with the camera attached to the weapon. The camera and included mount held up well against the light recoil of the AR-15 type rifle. The camera mount attaches to the weapon via a Picatinny compatible accessory rail. Hand tightening of the mount was all that was required for mounting and I experienced no loosen of the mount throughout the 150 rounds. The resulting video was very good quality with very little distortion present when a round was expended. I was impressed with the audio capabilities of this unit also. The microphone collected audio very well. At distances of up to 10 – 15 yards line of sight, voices could be easily discerned during playback. With the camera mounted to the weapon, a viewer could easily “look through the eyes” of the shooter.

The field of view of the camera was more than adequate as was the clarity of video. Watching the video after an incident couldn’t be simpler. The camera includes three options to watch the recorded video. The first option is to attach the included RCA cables to a television and follow the simple instructions in order to the view the video. The second option for viewing the video is to remove the memory card and insert it into a compatible computer or reader. The third option; a USB cable is included to watch the video on a compatible TV or computer.

Camera applications for the Advanced Tactical Camera would include Special Operations and Training functions predominately. The camera is too large to be easily and comfortably mounted on a handgun, however, the camera could be considered for general deployment for use on the issued patrol rifles.

Pacific Concepts Advanced Tactical Camera
19 May 2008

No, that “P.C.” does NOT stand for “politically correct.” Anyone who has read my writing for more than a month or so knows that my name and “politically correct” rarely, if ever, belong in the same sentence. That PC stands for Pacific Concepts. I found this company displaying a new tactical camera at SHOT Show and had to stop to take a look. What caught my attention was the fact that the camera was both wireless and waterproof and I could have one for under $200. Of course, I had to see how easy it would break with a price like that. Here’s what I found out.
